On January 21, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/what-follows-president-trump-decision-to-step-back-from-threatening-to-use-force-in-greenland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>threatening<\/span><\/a> to use military force to annex the island, President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c86vvjxe9z7o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>announced<\/span><\/a> a \u201cframework of a future deal\u201d over Greenland. Trump continues to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/22\/us-news\/trump-vows-us-will-have-total-access-to-greenland-with-no-end-under-deal-may-still-acquire-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>claim<\/span><\/a> that the U.S. will have \u201ctotal access\u201d to Greenland, while European officials stress that Greenland will remain under Danish control.<\/p><p class=\"\">In a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filesforprogress.org\/datasets\/2026\/1\/dfp_trump_greenland.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>survey<\/span><\/a>, Data for Progress finds that a strong majority of voters (62%) think the U.S. should not try to acquire Greenland, while 30% think it should.
