Depraved revelations have been steadily trickling out of the latest Epstein files, released by the US Department of Justice on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tidal wave of documents \u2013 comprising more than three million pages, 180,000 images and 2,000 videos relating to the late paedophile financier Jeffery Epstein \u2013 is the final and six-weeks-late release in compliance with Donald Trump\u2019s Epstein Files Transparency Act.<\/span><\/p>\n

While there\u2019s plenty of detail to dig into on one side of the pond, with Trump <\/span>(mentioned more than 1,000 times)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Elon Musk<\/span><\/a>, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Steve Bannon and <\/span>\u2018Melania\u2019 director Brett Ratner <\/span><\/a>all cropping up, British elites \u2013 <\/span>from Buckingham Palace<\/span><\/a> to Downing Street \u2013 do not emerge unscathed either.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am, of course, duty bound to <\/span>\u2018do a Sky News\u2019<\/span><\/a> and state that being mentioned or pictured in the Epstein files doesn\u2019t necessarily indicate wrongdoing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, as of Sunday night, the latest drop has resulted in Lord Peter \u2018Petey\u2019 Mandelson (aka the Prince of Darkness) <\/span>resigning from the Labour party<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The New Labour grandee stepped down after bank statements in the files appeared to show payments <\/span>of \u00a355k from Epstein<\/span><\/a> to accounts connected to Mandelson between 2003 and 2004 (and \u00a310k to Mandelson\u2019s partner Reinaldo Avila da Silva in 2009).<\/span><\/p>\n

The email exchanges also revealed that Mandelson said he was <\/span>\u201ctrying hard\u201d to change government policy<\/span><\/a> on bankers\u2019 bonuses following requests from Epstein in 2009, which was after the financier\u2019s first conviction for procuring a minor for prostitution.<\/span><\/p>\n

A wealthy and powerful paedophile exerting his influence on government ministers to let rich people take home more money? The tinfoil hats are surplus to requirements at this stage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his late-night resignation, Mandelson wrote to Labour\u2019s general secretary Hollie Ridley that he feels \u201cregretful and sorry\u201d about being linked further to Epstein. \u201cAllegations which I believe to be false that he made financial payments to me 20 years ago, and of which I have no record or recollection, need investigating by me,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mandelson went on to say that he\u2019s stepping down as a Labour member to avoid causing \u201cfurther embarrassment\u201d to the party. Embarrassment might be too milquetoast a word, considering he also showed up in the Epstein files wearing some displeasingly small underwear in a photo with a young woman. Her face is redacted.<\/span><\/p>\n

But spare a thought too for Keir Starmer, whose judgement is once again in question, as he appointed Mandelson to the plum job of UK ambassador to the US when it was public knowledge that he had <\/span>kept in contact with Epstein<\/span><\/a> after the latter\u2019s child sex offence conviction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starmer\u2019s chief of staff Morgan McSweeney was also keen on hiring Mandelson \u2013 <\/span>his former mentor<\/span><\/a> \u2013 to the <\/span>\u201cmost glittering diplomatic post in the UK government\u201d<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Mandelson was sacked last year (after earlier files revealed <\/span>particularly friendly and supportive contact between the chums<\/span><\/a>), it emerged that his relationship with Epstein was known and <\/span>\u201cdiscussed in detail\u201d within the Cabinet Office<\/span><\/a>, and that he was \u201cspecifically asked about the association with Epstein\u201d as part of the job-vetting process.<\/span><\/p>\n

The gaslighting from political elites about how Mandelson\u2019s appointment was a smart and extremely good move continues to age like fish.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reform leader Nigel Farage was a big fan at the time, calling Mandelson a <\/span>\u201cvery clever man\u201d who can \u201cmaster his brief\u201d<\/span><\/a>. Frontbenchers <\/span>including David Lammy<\/span><\/a> also gave their seal of approval, while Sky\u2019s Mark Stone praised Mandelson as a <\/span>\u201csharp and agile operator\u201d<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, even Mandelson\u2019s resignation is looking like a stake in the PM\u2019s heart. \u201cIt just makes Keir look weak, again\u201d, <\/span>one minister moaned to ITV\u2019s Keiron Clarke<\/span><\/a>, since the leadership is now bereft of the opportunity to throw Mandelson overboard. If I was Starmer, I\u2019d maybe get cracking with stripping Mandelson of his peerage, but what do I know?<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to the latest info-dump, we\u2019ve got a new wealth of evidence that we live in a deeply sick plutocracy where people with disturbing levels of money and influence protect, support, house, finance and otherwise provide for the interests of one another. And that ecosystem didn\u2019t die in a New York jail cell with Epstein.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
