Amnesty International has designated Russian poets Artyom Kamardin, Yegor Shtovba and Nikolai Dayneko as prisoners of conscience. Following their 2022 arrests for reading anti-war poetry in public, Kamardin and Shtovba were sentenced to seven and five-and-a-half years\u2019 imprisonment, and Dayneko four years in a penal colony. Imprisonment for their acts, which were no threat to Russia\u2019s national security, is a clear retaliation to their freedom of expression. The poets must be released immediately and unconditionally, and allegations of torture and ill-treatment must be promptly investigated.<\/p>\n \n

On 15 January 2026 rescue volunteer Se\u00e1n Binder and 23 of his co-defendants celebrated a big victory in Greece. Se\u00e1n was arrested on Lesvos in 2018 when he worked as a volunteer for a search and rescue NGO and spent over 100 days in detention. It then took seven long years to achieve justice.
