Representatives from the Southern Poverty Law Center joined scholars, historians, artists, museum curators, activists and journalists from Germany and the U.S. for a tour of the U.S. South, the second half of a collaborative project called \u201cBuilding a Critical Memory: Transitioning From Denial to Collective Responsibility in Germany and the United States.\u201d With stops in Georgia, Alabama and Washington, D.C., the U.S. leg of the project allowed participants to visit sites that protect the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, as well as those that center slavery and the Confederacy, offering participants the chance to acknowledge hard truths about U.S. history and commit to uplifting the voices of impacted communities.<\/p>\n \n
